Accessibility: From Gottingen Street

Parking: Street parking is available on the East side of Gottingen Street (same as the theatre) before 3pm and after 6pm. Between 3pm and 6pm, Gottingen Street becomes a bus thoroughfare and parked cars will be towed.

Closest Transit Bus Stops: Heading North, the closest bus stop is located directly in front of the theatre (2203 Gottingen). Heading South toward downtown, the closest bus stop is located in front of G-Street Pizza (2300 Gottingen).

Lobby: The front door is automatic and has high and low power buttons. When entering the theatre from outside, the buttons are located on the left, and the door opens to the right. When exiting, the buttons are located to the right and the door opens to the left. Immediately inside the building, a ramp takes you up to the lobby. A hand rail is located on the left along the ramp. If you follow the wall to the back of the room there is a bright yellow door to the theatre. There is an automatic door button on the right side wall, and the door opens to the right. The bar has both a low counter and a high counter to choose from for ordering at the bar. There is a seating area with movable seating and tables located at the front of the lobby by the street front windows.

Lobby Washrooms: In the back left side of the lobby, there are three all gender washrooms with bright yellow doors and braille signage. There is a blue light over top of each of the washroom doors, which turns on when the washroom is in use. The accessible washroom is through the door furthest to the right. It has an automatic door with the button to the left, and the door opens to the right. In the accessible washroom stall, the toilet is in the back right hand corner with grab bars on both the right hand side and behind the toilet. An adjustable grab bar is also available to the left of the toilet. This washroom has a sharps container. There is a low sink which a chair user can roll up underneath. There is an automatic door button to the right of the door inside the washroom and the door opens to the left.

The other two bathrooms are not fully accessible but do have grab bars. The bathrooms do not have change tables.

Entering the Theatre: Entrance to the theatre is made through a small light and sound lock room closed at either end by an automatic door. At both doors, the button is located on the right hand wall and the door opens to the right. Once in the theatre, a short straight corridor alongside the audience risers takes you to the front of audience seating. The space is 1.2 meters at its narrowest. Audience seating is to the left as you enter. Any of the front row seats can be removed to be made wheelchair accessible.

Exiting the Theatre: When exiting the theatre, return the way you came. The button for both doors are to the right, and the door opens to the left.

Emergency Exit: In case of an emergency, a second exit is also available at the back right hand corner of the theatre. The exit door opens to a staircase leading down to the basement level at the back of the building. A first flight of stairs leads straight down to a first landing, then a second flight of stairs on the left takes you to the basement level. The exit door is then located on the right hand side. A hand rail is located along the entire staircase on the right hand wall going down. All stairs have a yellow and black strip along the edge for increased visibility. Doors at the top and bottom of these stairs are not automatic. There is a concrete slab outside the emergency exit at the back of the building. Past the concrete slab, a gravel parking lot on a downward slope will take you down to Maitland Street.

In case of an emergency, a person who cannot use stairs should use the front exit for a fully accessible pathway. In the event that this exit is made unsafe or inaccessible, such a person will require assistance to exit through the back.

In the event of a power outage, emergency lights will light up all emergency exit pathways leading to both the front and back of the building. Emergency pathway maps are located on the wall next to every doorway along these routes.

Dressing Room: Artists using the theatre can access the dressing room located at the back of the building behind the theatre chamber. An automatic door gives entrance to the dressing room at the back left hand corner of the theatre. The button is on the right and the door opens to the left. When exiting the dressing room, the button is on the left and the door opens to the right. Inside the dressing room, wheelchair counter space and vanity stations are located along the walls to the left and right. Two washrooms with braille signage are located at the back of the dressing room. The accessible washroom is to the left. A button is located to the right and the door opens to the right. Inside the washroom, the toilet is located to the right and a wheelchair accessible sink and shower are located to the left. Grab bars are located behind and to the right of the toilet. An adjustable grab bar is also available to the left of the toilet. A seat for the shower can be folded out from the right hand wall when facing the shower. The shower head is adjustable in height and can be hand held. This washroom has a sharps container. To exit the washroom, the button is to the right and the door opens to the left. The second washroom is not accessible, but does include grab bars by the toilet. To exit the dressing room, the button is on the left and the door opens to the right.

Accessibility: From Maynard Street

Access Between Levels: Access between the Gottingen Street theatre level and the Maitland Street community room level can only be made inside the building via the emergency exit stairs at the back end of the building. For those who cannot use stairs, access between levels can only be made by exiting the building and circling the block by using the sidewalks along Gottingen, Prince Williams and Maitland Streets. A paved pathway also connects Gottingen and Maitland Streets between Alter Egos Cafe (2193 Gottingen Street) and RadStorm/Eyelevel Gallery (2177 Gottingen Street). Both the sidewalks and the paved pathway connecting these streets are worn and bumpy in some areas. There is also an incline going up to Gottingen Street from Maitland Street.

Parking: Two hour free parking is available along both sides of Maitland Street. An accessible parking space is available at the top of the gravel driveway leading to the Community Room. The parking space is unpaved. It is located to the right of the entrance to the building.

Vestibule: Past the gravel parking lot, a concrete slab runs along the back of the building. The door to the community room vestibule is automatic. A button is located to the left and the door opens to the right. Inside the vestibule, a corridor leads straight toward the door to the community room. On the left of the corridor, another corridor takes you to the washrooms. Past this intersection, two closets are located on the left before arriving at the community room.

Washrooms: When turning left from the vestibule as you enter the building, two washrooms with braille signage are located on the right. The washroom to the left is accessible. A button is located on the right and the door opens to the right. Inside the washroom, the toilet is located to the left and a wheelchair accessible sink is located to the right. Grab bars are located behind and to the left of the toilet. An adjustable grab bar is also available to the right of the toilet. This washroom has a sharps container. To exit the washroom, the button is to the right and the door opens to the left. The second washroom is not accessible, but does include grab bars by the toilet.

Community Room: The door to the community room is automatic. The button is on the right hand wall and the door opens to the right. To exit, the button is on the right and the door opens left. Inside the room, any furniture is movable and can be made wheelchair accessible. A small kitchenette with a wheelchair accessible counter is located on the right when entering the community room.

Emergency Exit: In case of an emergency, a second exit pathway is available from the community room. Doors along this pathway are not automatic. A second exit door is located at the left hand back corner of the room. This door leads to a corridor that immediately turns left outside of the room. Follow this corridor to its end where another door opens to a small landing where the emergency stairs lead to the theatre upstairs. A door to the outside is located straight ahead past the stairs. This door is not automatic. There is a concrete slab outside the emergency exit at the back of the building. Past the concrete slab, a gravel parking lot on a downward slope will take you down to Maitland Street.

In case of an emergency, a person who cannot use doors that are not automatic should use the main exit for a fully accessible pathway. In the event that this exit is made unsafe or inaccessible, such a person will require assistance to exit through the alternate pathway.

The Theatre and Lobby both have heat pumps which circulate air and remain on, except during performances on request of renters. The entire building is serviced by a HVAC system. Both of these systems have filters. 

We are not a mask mandatory space, but welcome renters who wish for their events to be mask-mandatory. If requested, we can ensure our staff members (technicians & bartenders) are masked throughout mask-mandatory events. Masks are always available at the bar for patrons who want them.
